Set in the heart of the Essex countryside, House & Jackson is an independent, small animal and equine RCVS accredited Primary Care practice with Hospital status. Run by three Partners, all practicing vets, House & Jackson is located in the beautiful, rural setting of Blackmore, just outside of Chelmsford, about half an hour from London.
 

House & Jackson boasts the latest in diagnostic technology, and an in-house laboratory, enabling the fast turn-around of tests at a competitive cost. Facilities include a hydrotherapy unit, and spacious kennels and cattery, and a large equine operating theatre and stables. As a BEVA Approved AI Centre, House & Jackson also provide a comprehensive range of Stud and Artificial Insemination services.
 

As a RCVS approved Graduate Development Practice and a Veterinary Education Partner of the University of Surrey, we provide our students and newly qualified vets with a fully supported environment, nurturing and encouraging them to develop their skills under the guidance of our two VetGDP advisors and our dedicated team of experienced Vets and Vet nurses.

EQUINE SERVICES

Our ambulatory and in practice equine veterinarians undertake all routine care including vaccinations, annual health checks and euthanasia, as well as 24 hour emergency care.

Pre-purchase vettings

We offer both 2-stage and 5-stage vettings 

Surgery – under the direction of Partner and veterinary surgeon, Dr. Luisa Smith, European Diplomat and Specialist in Equine Surgery. Facilities include a padded knockdown and recovery box, with CCTV allowing close monitoring of patients, and assisted recovery when necessary. A separate operating theatre houses a padded, hydraulic operating table, ventilator, and all the specialist equipment required to closely monitor patients during anaesthetic. Surgical procedures undertaken include soft tissue, abdominal surgery, arthroscopy, laparoscopy and castrate 

Diagnostic Imaging – digital radiography, ultrasound, video endoscopy including gastroscopy

Dentistry - both routine and more advanced

Lameness – full investigation and treatment

Reproductive and AI (BEVA approved AI centre) – under the direction of Jessica Spanton, Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine and Advanced Practitioner in Stud Medicine.  Mare management with fresh, chilled or frozen semen, Advanced reproductive techniques for management of sub-fertile mares, and foal intensive care unit

Therapeutic services – including shockwave and laser

Pre-purchase examinations – Full 5 stage and 2 stage vettings

Export Certification – carried out by one of our three equine Official Veterinarians

Racing Work – Our ARVS vets perform racecourse cover at Chelmsford City Racecourse
